Day 39 of training Money raised so far: $1705 171 days left to fundraise
TANGY AND REFRESHING
This past Saturday was our 8-mile run (farthest ever!) It rained on and off (more on than off) for the entire 90 minutes, which was an interesting experience. Fortunately, I purchased a waterproof jacket a while ago, so that kept me reasonably dry. My super awesome cashmere knit cap (courtesy of Christine) also kept my exceptionally large head warm. During the entire run, we were fighting foot traffic from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, which caused us to change our route slightly. This week was also the first time I tried my PowerGels. I had the lemon-lime flavor which, contrary to their claims, is not a "tangy, refreshing alternative", but rather quite disgusting. 1 1/2 fluid ounces never seemed so large.
Nonetheless, the run turned out quite well, and we finished right on pace. It was, however, the first week that I was sore the next day. I imagine I'll have to get used to the feeling as our mileage increases. Next week: double digits!

Yup, Gel/Gu/Goo is pretty nasty stuff.
I always buy Gels thining -- I bet this one really _does_ tase like chocolate or vanilla cream, or "apples with a touch of caramel"... but really, not so much.
However something happens around mile 16 or so durring your really long training runs in which you start thinking it's a tasty nummy candy confection on the gods given to you. (Don't even get me started on how much I love Advil at that point ) 'Course you really don't know why your feet are still moving, so I think your brain has pretty much given up sanity at this point and started thinking crazy thoughts.
My favorite fake foods (or what I'll be packin' this week for the MCM)--
Power Gel- Strawberry Bannana
Power Gel- Apple
Luna Bar- Key Lime
Power Bar- Chocolate
Power Bites- Peanut Butter
Also, In Lemon-Lime's defense-- it's not so bad, it's definatly not the worst one out there-- Go out and try these foul flavors:
Power Gel- Tangerine: yeah it's _double_ caffinated with "Pure, unadulterated tangerine taste" But it tastes like bitter citrus crap. It's "unadulterated" taste made me use entire water bottle just to rinse that stuff out of my mouth...
GU- "Just Plain": You'd think that means no flavor, no taste, which would be fine by me. Oh no, I don't even know what flavor it is (reported on their web-site as "sweet and clean, like hard candy"), but it dosen't resemble anything i've eaten or want to eat again.
